Indy Social Media: The Evolution of Social Media Marketing

The evolution of social media marketing is taking place right before our very eyes. Be careful not to blink because the game can change quickly. The complexity of social media is rapidly increasing with the development of apps for Foursquare, Twitter, and Facebook. Social media isn’t as simple as signing up for Facebook and Twitter accounts and posting a few statements and articles. It’s an intertwining network that includes new start-ups everyday and every social media hustler must be on their toes to stay on top of the latest and greatest methods of making your company or product more social. Now that we have all these various applications and tools for promotion it’s up to the social media expert to choose which applications will effectively reach the target audience. In other words, what combination of applications can help companies get the most bang for their buck?

Social media is constantly evolving with spin offs of Facebook and Twitter that actually enable the user to use these networks in a way that is more fun and efficient. From Twitter dashboards that allow marketing agencies to view their client’s Twitter pages from one place to social media platforms like Instagram and Yahoo’s Flickr that work together to promote pictures of businesses and people alike.

Another aspect of social media is blogging. Do not underestimate the power of a blog. After all, a blog can be and will be the backbone of any social media marketing campaign and can be a very powerful tool if properly optimized for search engines. Without a blog you are just a middle man to other peoples ideas and forced to distribute things that you don’t really understand. My thinking here is that if one can’t write about it, then one can’t put collective thoughts together about it, which will then result  in a lack of change and influence on a very tough crowd. The type of social media marketer that a real social media Hustler eats for breakfast. Can I get an extra side of gravy for that social media biscuit? You get the drift.

Like I mentioned above, the blog world is a MAJOR part of social media and if social media is evolving then blogs are too, and will be affected by 3rd parties that enable blog posts to be found and viewed more effectively. A prime example of this would be Stumbleupon.com. This is a tool that takes your blog posts and distributes them in a social network of people from Facebook, Google, and Twitter. It’s basically one of those web sites that you can sign in with any of these logins and then access all your friends from these networks. From there an algorithm takes over and based on your likes and profile selections it distributes daily posts that fit your interests. Pretty cool huh? That’s all for this weeks edition of The Social Hustle.
